Hello 2016

January 03, 2016

Happy New Year.

I hope you've had a fantastic festive period and are looking forward to 2016.

All of the Christmas decorations have now been packed away and after five hours of reorganising, tidying and cleaning, everything feels fresh and ready for a new start. Though i'm a firm believer that any new day regardless of the year or date offers the opportunity to start afresh or make a change if you wish, there is something so therapeutic about implementing changes at the beginning of a new year.

You may (if anyone still reads this small space of the internet) have released that things have been very quiet around these parts for most of 2015 if i'm perfectly honest. I wasn't sure whether I really wanted to address this, but the main change I wanted to make to this space this year is to add more personality and therefore it seems right to start with a more intimate post. I never made a conscious decision to stop blogging in 2015 but I didn't make any effort to continue either. Many factors played a part - mainly working full time finally took over making it difficult to develop my blog into what I wanted it to be. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so not having the time to properly plan posts, take enough photos, perfect my blog template or keep up with social media left me feeling deflated and disheartened with my online space.

Though I am still committed to working a full time job this year, my time away from blogging has shown me that as long as I'm doing something that I love then that's enough. I've come to realise that even if I don't have the best pictures or a glamorous template, I would rather do what I can than nothing at all. I may not be the prettiest or skinniest girl in the world, but that doesn't mean that I should be afraid to show my face online now and again either. When things in the real world all go pear shaped, I find comfort in blogging so I don't want to give that up just yet - 2016 is going to be the year that I make time to do what I love, not just what I have to.

I think i'll end this here before I ramble into 2017. I can't make any promises about consistent posting just yet, but hopefully this year I can overcome my fear and inject a bit more life and personality into Laura Through The Lens. Oh, and if you're still reading this, then thank you.

  1. I hope you manage to achieve your blogging goals, but if not, that's OK too. Sometimes real life gets in the way and when we think about it, doesn't that show that we're busy living instead? Happy New Year to you lovely, I hope 2016 is good to you xx

  3. I whole-heartedly feel you on this post. I have had some major ups and downs with blogging over the years, but finally found a space and a time that I enjoy being in. The most important thing is being happy with what you create; everything else will come in time. I hope 2016 bodes well for you! :D
